Bayliss Ware are proud sponsors of the VESTAS Sailrocket 2 boat, a radical new craft that looks more like a plane than a boat, built at the VESTAS R+D facilities on the Isle of Wight. In September the team returned to Walvis Bay, Namibia to try out a new hydrofoil package they hope will help them achieve a new world speed sailing record, currently set at 55.65 knots (64 mph). To do so means passing through the “glass ceiling” of a phenomenon called cavitation, effectively the hydrodynamic equivalent of the ‘Sound Barrier’. Good luck to all the designers, engineers and everyone involved in the VESTAS Sailrocket 2 project.
