Some taxpayers who used Santander’s BillPay to pay their tax on 31 January were mistakenly charged twice. A technical glitch in Santander’s systems lead to the error that meant thousands of tax payers paid their self assessment tax twice.
HMRC have announced that they have already started paying back those who were affected, and that Santander will cover any bank charges incurred as a result of the error. If you think you may have been affected we would suggest you drop us a line and we will contact HMRC on your behalf.
